The unforgiving Ordos International Circuit in Inner Mongolia brought plenty of obstacles, but Team Jebsen fought on, collecting a podium finish in Round 6 and fighting back through the field after being shunted off at the start of Round 7.
After making several changes to the set-up of the Team Jebsen
Round 6 got underway after a considerable delay while repair works were carried out on the track, affecting the focus and concentration of the entire field. Avila pushed hard to catch the leaders in the race. However was delighted to have stayed out of trouble to finish 3rd for the final podium position, and the valuable championship points that came with it.
Starting Round 7 from the third row of the grid, Avila was determined to add a second podium to Team Jebsen’s Ordos weekend. But as the 25-strong field charged off the grid, he was dramatically shunted off by a rival, spinning him into the oncoming pack.
The incident dropped Avila right down the order to 14th, but the Macau racer was on fire, ploughing his way back through the field. With scorching pace, Avila past car after car in the highly-competitive field, climbing to a creditable eighth by the chequered flag, collecting nine points and keeping Team Jebsen’s championship hopes very much alive.

“Our qualifying session being cut short was unexpected, and there was much, much more to come from the car, but we didn’t get the chance to show our real pace. The engine belt broke, so we lost the power steering and the engine was overheating. I had to pull off the track and stop. It’s all part of racing, but disappointing nonetheless.
“A podium in Round 6 was good for Team Jebsen’s spirits, but I did expect our pace to be even better than it was. Round 7 was very disappointing. Being taken out is always infuriating, but we had such a good car, we were determined to go for a second podium finish. I did what I could, and in the end we managed to complete a good points haul.
“The important thing is that we’re still third in the championship race, despite an unlucky weekend and challenges which were completely out of our control. We’re already looking ahead, and are excited by the prospect of racing on a brand new circuit in Korea.”

About Rodolfo Avila

Avila began his career in karts, attending the Macau Karting School at 14, and winning the Macau Karting International A (Group B) a year later. In 2002, he graduated to single seater racing, becoming the youngest driver ever to compete at the Macau Grand Prix, racing in the Formula Renault event.
He took the Asian Formula Renault Challenge championship title the following year, making his Formula 3 Grand Prix debut at Macau in 2004. His career continued its extraordinary ascent, with Rookie honours in the Asian Formula 3 Championship in 2005, finishing 5th overall. A season in the prestigious British Formula 3 Championship saw him end the year 4th in the National Class for newcomers.
