911 GT3 RSR (GT2 class)

The 911 GT3 RSR (997) is the product of continuous development which began with the introduction of the 911 GT3 R (996) in 1999. Since then this racecar has established itself as one the most successful models in international motor sports with near-production GT vehicles. Successive class victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours, in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) or in the FIA-GT series, speak for themselves.

The basis for homologation is the production sports car 911 GT3 RS (Type 997). Technical highlights of the 911 GT3 RSR, built according to GT2 regulations, are the 3.6 litre, 6-cylinder Boxer engine with over 465 bhp, the sequential 6-gear dog-type constant-mesh countershaft transmission, the continuously further developed racing chassis and the aerodynamically-optimised and especially light body.

The customer team Flying Lizard Motorsports immediately entered three 911 GT3 RSRs in 2008. Jörg Bergmeister will enter the race in number 45, along with his new works driver colleague, Wolf Henzler. The cockpit of number 46 will be shared by Johannes van Overbeek and the new Porsche works driver, Patrick Pilet. In the 911 GT3 RSR with the starting number 44, Darren Law and Seth Neiman will take turns at the wheel. Another 911 GT3 RSR will be entered by the Farnbacher Loles Racing team with drivers Dirk Müller and Marc Basseng. The third 911 GT3 RSR team is VICI Racing.
