The 2008 FIA GT race calendar consists of ten races lasting for 500 kilometres or approximately 3 hours at interesting racetracks worldwide. The annual highlight is the 24 hour race in Spa-Francorchamps, a race included in the FIA GT championship.
Production-based vehicles modified for racing compete in the GT1 and GT2 class of the series, with displacement size determining the class. With dramatic pit stops, driver changes and elaborate race, fuel and tire strategies, the series is a team sport with success coming from drivers, crew members and support staff. Due to the different classes on the same race track, there is constant passing and overtaking, making for exciting racing.
The smaller displacement, production-based “GT2“ category of the international FIA GT Championship is the home of Porsche customers and their 911 GT3 RSR sports cars.
In 2007, Porsche works driver Emmanuel Collard supported the Porsche customer team BMS Scuderia Italia that ended the championship on second position. The works drivers Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz and Patrick Long competed in the Spa 24 Hours at selected customer teams. As always, Porsche offers a comprehensive sport service for customers with the advancement of race cars, technical service on track and a comprehensive parts service.
