In the 1980s Porsche Germany created a support system for its professional race teams in North America that is still unrivaled today by any other manufacturer.

The legendary Al Holbert was named director of Porsche Motorsport and worked in that capacity until his tragic death in a private plane crash on September 30, 1988. Then, Porsche turned to Alwin Springer, co-owner of ANDIAL located in Santa Ana, California. Due to his tremendous experience in engine preparation and as a business owner, Alwin Springer became the new director of Porsche Motorsport.

At first Porsche Motorsport shared its facility with ANDIAL in Santa Ana, and was more than capable of supporting the now-declining GTP program. However, with the resurgence of GT racing in the late 1990s and numerous victories in the GT2 and GT3 class by privateers, Porsche realized that they had to establish an independent facility to provide proper support for the GT teams.

In February 1997, Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) was opened in Santa Ana with Alwin Springer as the President. With increased emphasis on customer support in GT racing and new programs devoted to vintage racing, PMNA underwent successful changes to maintain its position as the unmatched Porsche support organization in North America.

As a result of the steadily increasing business, PMNA expanded its operations in summer 2006 in all areas and now occupies an additional building.
